Hilliard Heritage Middle School

After spending many weeks at Britton the next step was to head into middle school. I choose to observe at Hilliard Heritage middle school. I attended there both my 7th and 8th grade years. As a tiny 7th grader my social studies teacher was Mr. VanKirk. Each day ended with his class and I loved how he taught and the group work we did. When deciding who my mentor should be immediately I thought back to his class and knew right away who to observe.

I spent around 5 weeks at Heritage coming 2-3 days each week. Middle school was a very different experience, much more independent driven. Most days were spent working on worksheets and taking notes. It was very exciting to re-learn about the history of the Punic Wars. Towards the end the students got to create a big roman emperor project. Given total freedom on creativity and even worked along side another social studies class. I'm very grateful for the experience as it helped me realize exactly on where I want my path to go.
